BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
The Board of Adjustments (BOA) is a board established by the Home Rule Charter and by ordinance consistent with State Code 211.008. The Board has the power to hear and determine appeals concerning the refusal of building permits, appeals resulting from administrative decisions and to permit exception to or variation from zoning regulations. Members of the Board of Adjustment shall hold no other City office and no former member of the City Council shall serve as a member of the Board of Adjustment until one (1) year after the completion of his/her City Council term. The board consists of no fewer than five (5) nor more than seven (7) members qualified to vote in the City elections. Members are appointed for a term of two (2) years. The BOA meets as required.
BURNET CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT
City Representative: Councilman Paul Shell
Established in January, 2002 by the City Council and incorporated as a non-profit
corporation on September 18, 2002. The board meets the third Wednesday of
every month at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of making recommendations to the City Council regarding arts related projects and activities in the City. The BCAC consists of nine members and another person who is the liaison from the City.
Created April 22, 2003, the board consists of five members; three at-large
members and two members of the Burnet Historic Commission. At-large directors
serve no more than two, two-year terms. The Board meets every first Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Burnet Meeting Center.
BURNET HOUSING AUTHORITY
The City has two representative members to the Burnet Housing Authority. Members serve two-year terms.
BURNET HOUSING FINANCE CORPORATION
Formed in 1997 by Resolution. Board consists of seven members with two year
terms as follows: two from Board of Directors of the Housing Authority, two
from citizens at large, the Mayor of the City, two members of City Council.
Board members serve two year terms.
BURNET INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
The BIDC oversees the use of the 4A Economic Development 1/2 cent sales tax. The group meets quarterly.
Committee consists of one City Council Member, one staff representative, the
Finance Director and four at-large members. At-large directors serve no more
than three two-year terms. The BTA typically meets every first Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m. at Burnet City Hall.
ELECTRICAL BOARD
In accordance with Code of Ordinances Section 22-180. This board does not
meet regularly. Board is charged with the task of certifying electricians
and as an appeals board for disagreements with City personnel over electrical
zoning issues.
Established in accordance with Section 10.03 of the Home Rule Charter. The
Board meets on an as-needed basis.
The HCEDC is a regional committee created to encourage Economic Development in Burnet and Llano Counties. The City of Burnet is represented on the HCEDC by three members, one councilman
and two at-large members.
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) is a board established by the Home Rule Charter and by ordinance charged with the following tasks: (a) exercise preliminary authority over platting and subdividing of land within and outside the corporate limits of the City as authorized by law; (b) recommend to the City Council approval or disapproval of zoning and proposed changes in the City's zoning ordinance and plan, and (c) recommend to the City Council any plans for the physical development of the City. The P&Z consists of no more than seven (7) and no less than five (5) members who must be residents of the City who are qualified to vote in City elections.
