Garage Sale permit frequently asked questions:
Do I need a garage sale permit? To hold a garage sale in the City of Burnet, you must have a City issued permit. Permits are valid for the dates and location listed on the permit only.
How often can I hold a garage sale and for how long? Citizens are permitted to hold a maximum of four garage sales in any single year, per person or location. The permit will be valid for two consecutive days.
Where do I get a permit? Garage sale permits are issued by the Office of Code Enforcement at City Hall (1001 Buchanan Drive, Suite 4, Burnet.) You must appear in person to obtain your permit. City hall hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for designated City holidays.
Is there a charge? There is not currently a charge for permits, however, no permit will be issued without a valid applicant name, address of sale and the contact phone number for the applicant.

Placing signs in the public right-of-way (such as along the roadways) and/or attaching them to a utility pole is prohibited. Signs must be removed within one day after the garage sale.
What must I have on the sign? You must have the address of the garage sale on every sign. Absolutely no “rocks in a box” type signs are permitted.
