CITY DEPARTMENTS: Planning & Zoning
Planning & Zoning
The Planning and Zoning Department sets the framework for the City's development through policy and development review by the Planning Commission. The department pursues community development by facilitating community planning processes, implementing federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, assuring quality commercial, residential and structure construction, helping to ensure the health, safety, and general welfare of the public and to help ensure the protection of the environment relating to zoning by providing fair, consistent, and timely enforcement of local codes and ordinances through service, education, and coordination with other agencies.
The Planning Staff is available to answer many questions concerning: zoning, setback requirements, subdivision regulations, rezoning matters, site plan review, annexation, property uses, variances, special use permits, special event permits, minimum housing, weeded lots and abandoned/junk vehicles and others.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is charged with the duties of planning for the future growth of the City and creating, updating and enforcing zoning ordinances. The links at the left provide information on proposed zoning, annexation, and rezoning. Click on the link of your choice for more information.
The City of Burnet adopted a comprehensive zoning ordinance in 2005 as the code of the City for the development, erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving, removed, demolition, conversion, occupancy, use, height, area, and maintenance of all buildings, structures or lots in the city providing for the issuance of conditional use permits therefore. Additional zoning code requirements can be found in the City of Burnet Code of Ordinances. The Code of Ordinances is available online or at the City Secretary's office at City Hall.
