CITY DEPARTMENTS: Public Safety
Police Department
The Burnet Police Department is responsible for a coverage area through the City's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (one mile outside the current City Limit). The City also maintains Mutual Aid Agreements with County, State and other local law enforcement agencies. Currently the department employs thirteen full time officers including the Chief of Police, a criminal investigator, one patrol sergeant, eight patrol officers, and two K-9 officers. The BPD also employs an office administrator.
The administrative facility for police operations is located at 105 S. Rhomberg, across from the Fire Department. While the PD provides 24-hour service, the station does not provide 24-hour lobby service. The lobby is open from 8-5 p.m. Monday - Friday, except during the lunch hour.
For emergency police and fire assistance, dial 9 -1 -1 twenty-four hours a day. For general information and assistance, call (512) 756-6404.
Reserve Officers: The Burnet Police Department is looking for new and experienced peace officers that are willing to donate a little of their time in support of the community. Applicants must hold at least a Basic Texas Peace Officer Certification and be in compliance with all TCLEOSE rules and regulation. Experience is preferred but not required. Non-paid (Reserve) officers are expected to work approximately 16 hours a month and to be available to supplement the full-time officers during special events. Uniforms are furnished.
