Health Savings Account (HSA)

The City of Burnet offers a Health Savings Account (HSA) for those employees that enroll in the HDHP.  HSA dollars can be used to pay for medical and prescription drug expenses that are applied towards deductibles, over-the-counter medications if purchased with a prescription and non-covered medical, dental and vision expenses.

For employees that are eligible for benefits as of October 1, 2021:

  • Employer contribution to your HSA  - If  your medical coverage is effective on or before 10/01/2021, the City of Burnet will contribute $1,000 to each participants HSA account with employee only coverage and $2,500 for employees with dependent coverage. For benefits effective after 10/01/2021, HSA contribution will be prorated. The City of Burnet’s contributions will be made semiannually on October 1 and April 1 each year (half on 10/1 and half on 4/1).  Remember, your contribution to the HSA plus the contribution the City makes cannot exceed the IRS contribution limits each year.
