Red Program

What is it?

The Reality Education for Drivers (RED) program is a FREE program that aims to save lives through education on Speeding, Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, and Seatbelt Misuse. During the program, participants are given educational materials, view videos and hear testimonials from first responders and individuals who have been impacted by the decisions of others behind the wheel.

Every program is a little different and each presentation is updated with the most recent data, but the bottom line is always the same! The Court’s goal is to educate drivers on how to make better decisions behind the wheel, making our community a safer place to live and drive, and help to #EndtheStreak of deaths on Texas roadways.

This program is a great education opportunity for new drivers and a great refresher for experienced drivers.

Have you or a loved one had a first hand experience on Texas roadways that you feel would educate drivers on the dangers of speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving or seatbelt misuse and would like to participate in our program? Reach out to the Municipal Court at 512-756-2822.

#EndtheStreak

TxDOT created #EndTheStreakTX in an effort to raise awareness about the long streak of traffic deaths in Texas and how this is an issue that impacts every Texan.

The reality is this: Texas has lost at least one person every day on Texas roads since Nov. 7, 2000. We need to end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roads!

This goal is big, but it’s possible. But it’s going to take every single driver to do their part behind the wheel.

Be Safe. Drive Smart.

The State of Texas records over 3,000 traffic fatalities a year. TxDOT urges all drivers to observe safe driving practices:

  • Be courteous to other drivers.
  • Always buckle up, all riders, day and night.
  • Pay attention, focus on driving when behind the wheel, put the phone away or turn it off.
  • Drive to conditions, slow down when weather conditions are bad.
  • Stop for all stop signs and red lights.
  • Pass carefully when it’s legal and safe.
  • Never drive after drinking alcohol or consuming other drugs or medications that cause drowsiness.
  • Slow down or move over for flashing lights; a law enforcement vehicle, emergency vehicle, tow truck or TxDOT vehicle that may be stopped along the side of the road.

For more information on these 2 traffic safety campaigns visit the Texas Department of Transportation's website.
