How you can help prevent ILLEGAL DUMPING
Illegal dumping is a serious issue in Texas and across the country. Not only is it a blight on the countryside but it is also carries a fine and possible jail time if convicted. Dumpsites are dangerous. They can contain broken glass, exposed metal, hazardous wastes and other unsafe materials. Also, rats, snakes, mosquitoes and other pests are attracted to dumpsites, creating serious health hazards.
Stopping illegal dumping makes good environmental and economic sense. To learn more about the state statute addressing litter and illegal dumping crimes in Texas, go to http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/ and click on Health & Safety Code, paragraph 365.012. For local ordinances go to the main page of the City of Burnet website and click on Code of Ordinances then go to Chapter 54.
What you can do.
• Dispose of your litter properly and encourage others to do the same
• Spread the word to friends and neighbors that illegal dumping is a crime
• Organize volunteer cleanups of illegal dumpsites
• Report illegal dumping to the Burnet Police Department at 512.756.4243 or the Code Enforcement Office at 512.756.6093
