RECYCLING IN BURNET
DOING OUR PART TO PROTECT THE EARTH
 |
The City of Burnet now offers residential citizens and small businesses the opportunity to participate in single-stream curbside recycling. This page provides important information on how single-stream curbside recycling works.
On May 2, 2012, IESI (the City's solid waste provider) began collecting recyclable materials in a special blue cart. The cart should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. (Recyclables should not be sorted into types.) IESI will then empty the cart every other week either on Wednesday or Thursday, depending upon where you live in the city. Generally, customers north of highway 29 will be picked up on Wednesday and those south of 29 will be picked up on Thursday, however, neighborhoods along highway 29 west, and the area just north of 29 and west of 281 from highway 29 to Kerr Street will also be picked up on Thursday.
Click here for a pdf version of the pick-up map. (You will need to download a free version of Adobe Reader to view this file.)
Citizens should place all eligible recyclable products into the blue cart without bundling or bagging them. Businesses who wish to use the recycling system should contact the City at (512) 756-6093 to see if they are eligible to participate in the recycling program.
Eligible recyclable products are listed below.

How you can help prevent ILLEGAL DUMPING
Illegal dumping is a serious issue in Texas and across the country. Not only is it a blight on the countryside but it is also carries a fine and possible jail time if convicted. Dumpsites are dangerous. They can contain broken glass, exposed metal, hazardous wastes and other unsafe materials. Also, rats, snakes, mosquitoes and other pests are attracted to dumpsites, creating serious health hazards.
Stopping illegal dumping makes good environmental and economic sense. To learn more about the state statute addressing litter and illegal dumping crimes in Texas, go to http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/ and click on Health & Safety Code, paragraph 365.012. For local ordinances go to the main page of the City of Burnet website and click on Code of Ordinances then go to Chapter 54.
What you can do.
• Dispose of your litter properly and encourage others to do the same
• Spread the word to friends and neighbors that illegal dumping is a crime
• Organize volunteer cleanups of illegal dumpsites
• Report illegal dumping to the Burnet Police Department at 512.756.4243 or the Code Enforcement Office at 512.756.6093
