Burnet Municipal Court

Our Purpose

The judges and clerks of the Burnet Municipal Court are committed to serving the public by providing a fair and efficient system of justice that fosters public trust and confidence. The Court is dedicated to providing impartial and friendly customer service while informing citizens of their options to resolve their cases.

Jurisdiction

The Burnet Municipal Court handles all Class C misdemeanor offenses arising under Texas civil and criminal statutes and city ordinances that occur in the city limits and the extraterritorial jurisdictional limits of the City of Burnet.

Court Location

The Court Offices are located at the City of Burnet Municipal Offices at 1001 Buchanan Drive (Hwy 29 W), Suite 4, Burnet.

Court Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

The Court window will be closed during scheduled court dates (see Court Dates section).

Pre-Trial and Trials are held at the City Council Chambers located at 2302 S. Water (Hwy 281 S) inside the Commemorative Air Force Highland Lakes Air Museum building.

Please note Judge Tinney is not in office on a daily basis. All correspondence should be directed to the court clerk by email or phone.

 

Juveniles (16 and younger)

If the defendant is a juvenile at the time of the violation, a Summons for the defendant to appear with a parent or guardian in Court will be mailed to the address provided on the citation. If this address needs to be updated, please contact the court clerk.

Please note it is the responsibility of all defendants to update the Court of any address changes.

 

Options for Resolving Your Case

1. Entering a plea of No Contest or Guilty and paying violation in full or requesting a payment plan.

  • Payment in full can be processed in person, online or by mail.
  • If you are requesting a payment plan, you will need to contact the court clerk for further instructions.
  • The Court does not accept Checks. Cash, Money Orders, and Debit/Credit cards are accepted. There will be a 2% fee added to all credit card transactions. If using debit, the pin must be entered.

If you are unable to pay the amount owed without undue hardship to yourself or your dependents, you may request a hearing before a Judge to consider your ability to pay and request any non-monetary compliance options available to you. You should be prepared to explain and document your financial situation to the Court.

2. Requesting a Driver’s Safety Course (Defensive Driving)

  • See the Driver’s Safety Course section to see if you qualify.

3. Requesting Deferred Disposition.

  • You will need to contact the Court for further instructions on how to utilize this option and to see if you qualify

4. Requesting a Compliance Dismissal.

  • This is an option if you were issued a “fix-it” ticket such as Expired Registration, Expired Driver’s License, Fail to Display Driver’s License, Fail to Report Change of Address or Name
  • Proof of the correction must be provided to the Court with a No Contest or Guilty plea and the appropriate dismissal fee. Contact the court clerk for more information.

Please note if you were given a citation for Fail to Maintain Financial Responsibility (no insurance), this violation is only dismissible if the insurance was valid at the time of the stop.

  • If the insurance was valid, you will need to provide a copy of the ID card to the court for verification.
