General Information

The City of Burnet, the county seat for Burnet County, is situated in the mid western area of the county and encompasses approximately six square miles.  According to the 2020 census, the population is in Burnet is 6,406 people.  The county courthouse is located on the historic square in Burnet.  There are also two courthouse annexes in the city which house many of the county offices.  One is located at 1701 E. Polk (Highway 29 East) and the other is located on the south side of the square, across from the Courthouse.  Call the county at 512.756.5406 to locate the office you need to contact.

The school district is the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District and consists of Burnet High School, Quest High School, Burnet Middle School, Burnet Elementary, Shady Grove Elementary R.J. Richey Campus, 6th Grade Campus and Bertram Elementary School.

The Herman Brown Free Library is located at 100 E. Washington (on the square) in Burnet. Services include weekly story hours for preschoolers, adult reading literacy and G.E.D. study programs, computers, internet access and counselors to teach the novice computer user, and a meeting room for community use.

Seton Highland Lakes is a 42-bed acute care hospital and a member of the Seton Healthcare System.  Services include 24 Hour Emergency Room, Home Health Services, Hospice Services, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Cardio/Pulmonary, and Chemotherapy.  Seton is located at 3201 S. Water, ( Highway 281 South.)

The Burnet Municipal Airport is located at Kate Craddock Field at 2302 S. Water (Highway 281 South).  Services include a 5,000 ft. lighted runway, paved taxi strip, Avgas and jet fuel, aircraft maintenance service and instrument landing service.   Covered hangers are available for a fee.  Contact Faulkner Air Service for information 512.756.6655 or the airport manager at 512.756.6093.

Burnet is located approximately 55 miles northwest of Austin.  Austin Bergstrom Airport is the nearest major airport.

Fort Croghan Museum and Grounds provides a glimpse of life as it was during the mid 1800’s when Burnet was founded.  The museum houses more than 1,200 artifacts from the area.  The fort grounds include log cabins, a powder house, a look-out building, a stage coach stop, a one-room school house and others.  Contact the museum at 512.756.8281 or go to their web site at www.fortcroghan.org for more information.

The Commemorative Air Force Museum is located at Kate Craddock Field in Burnet, Texas. The museum features military memorabilia, static displays and planes. The CAF Highland Lakes Squadron holds fly-ins throughout the year.

The C.A.R.T.S. program provides transportation to residents locally and to Marble Falls, Bertram, Georgetown, Round Rock, Temple and Austin. Out of town trips are generally reserved for doctor appointments. Call 1-800-456-RIDE (7433) at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride or to get more information.

Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties (OWBC) Sunrise Senior Center located at 602 N. Wood Street in Burnet,  provides two opportunities for nutritional meals for citizens 60 years of age and older at a reduced cost. 

How it Works:

Home delivered meals are provided to those who live in the area and qualify, because they are homebound and over age 60. Because of funding shortfalls there may be a waiting list for homebound services. Please contact your local site leader for an assessment.
