Capital Project Project Description Budget/Funding Source May 2025 Update
TxDOT Pavement Maintenance

This TxDOT-initiated pavement maintenance project aims to enhance the airport’s infrastructure by improving surface durability and safety. The project includes crack sealing, seal coating, minor pavement reconstruction, and remarking of the runway, taxiway, and ramp surfaces to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

This is 90% funded by federal and state sources ($1,372,500), with the City providing a 10% matching contribution from Airport Reserves ($152,500).

Phase 1 of the project—Crack Seal and Seal Coat—has been completed.
There will be an estimated 30-day curing period between the completion of Phase 1 and the start of Phase 2 (Marking Application). Phase 2 is anticipated to begin in mid-June 2025. Please note that additional airport closures will be required at that time to allow for the marking application.
We will provide more details and specific closure dates as we get closer to the start of Phase 2.

Platting of Airport Property Conduct a boundary retracement survey to identify deed boundary lines, prepare the Final Plat, submit it to the City, and establish monumentation for the final boundary. $35,000/Airport Reserves City Staff is collaborating with Cuatro Consultants to review the documents related to the replatting of the airport properties.
Airport (RAMP Grant) The City of Burnet has been involved in the Routine Airport Maintenance Program (RAMP) with TxDOT Aviation since 2004. This grant funding supports the City in maintaining both airside and landside areas, as well as facilitating small capital projects at the airport. $111,111/State Ramp Grant 90%/Airport Reserves 10% The RAMP Grant was officially executed by TxDOT in October. Since then, several projects have been completed, including the north highway fence upgrade, minor hangar repairs, perimeter fence repair, CAF automatic gate repair, and the installation of a new metal sign at the airport meeting building.
The final major project to be completed utilizing RAMP Grant funds will be the construction of the Hangar Access Road, located behind the new box hangar and Hangar D.
Box Hangar The project entails the construction of a box hangar that measures around 100 feet by 120 feet. This hangar will serve as a shell for a potential tenant. By building this hangar, we are establishing a foundation for business growth at the airport. $1,900,000/Bond Proceeds/BIL Reimbursement The box hangar project is moving along nicely. The contractor informed the City that the hangar is ready for permanent power, and City Electric is in the process of scheduling the connection. Apron asphalt is currently scheduled for mid-June, though continued rain may impact that timeline.
The concrete subcontractor is preparing the trickle channel and SETs for pour. Progress has been slowed by rain and mud, as these pours are located in areas designed to handle stormwater flow.
Installation of the oil-water separator is still pending and is planned to occur around the same time as the asphalt work.
The contractor is still aiming for a mid-July completion, but weather conditions continue to present challenges.
Decel Lane Engineering This marks Phase 1 of the Deceleration Lane project, which seeks to improve both safety and efficiency by establishing a dedicated deceleration lane for vehicles approaching the airport. This designated lane will enable drivers to reduce their speed gradually, minimizing disruptions to Hwy 281's traffic flow and thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents and congestion. $20,000/Airport Reserves No Prgress- This project's funding is tied to the Box Hangar budget. Work will not begin until the budget for the Hangar project is fully finalized.
