The Burnet Police Department is responsible for a coverage area through the City's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (one mile outside the current City Limit). The City also maintains Mutual Aid Agreements with County, State and other local law enforcement agencies.

The administrative facility for police operations is located at 2000 S. Water Street, next to the Fire Department.

The Burnet Fire Department, located at 2002 South Water Street, is a career municipal department, comprised of 27 full-time and 12 paid part-time personnel.  Serving in dual roles as both fire fighters and emergency medical technicians, the men and women of Burnet Fire Department are responsible for providing both fire suppression and emergency medical services.  The primary fire response area covers the incorporated city limits of Burnet, Texas and as mutual aid to Burnet Volunteer Fire Department in 345 square miles of north central Burnet County.  Additionally, a total
