About Us
The City of Burnet Building Department protects the health, safety, and general welfare of the public be enforcing compliance to current building code. The Building Department reviews plans, issues permits, and performs building inspections. 

A building permit is required for any construction which physically changes or add structures to the property. 
Building can begin once a building permit is issued. The building permit expires after 180 days unless construction continues or an extension is granted.

  • Irrigation Permit
  • Events Permit
  • Sign Permit

When do I need a Building Permit?

Types of projects that require permits include, but are not limited to:

  • Dwellings
  • Remodels/additions 
    • Garages and re-roofs
  • Decks/Patio Covers
  • Garages
  • Accessory Structures (storage sheds in excess of 120 sq)
  • Gazebos
  • Carports
  • Swimming pools and spas/hot tubs
  • Installing or replacing water heaters or water softeners
  • Irrigation systems
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical Wiring
  • Installing or replacing heating and/or air conditioning equipment
  • Any structural changes

Some projects that do not require permits:

  • House painting
  • Carpets
  • New cabinets and countertops
  • Fences (please see City Ordinance for fencing guidelines)

Apply for a Permit

The City of Burnet utilizes an online permit application system. MyGovernmentOnline allows you to apply for your permits online rather than traveling to a designated permit office. 

Users will have the ability to:

  • Apply and pay online for permits
  • Submit plans and documents in a “paperless” PDF format
  • Track application progress up to permit issuance
  • View and print copies of letter documents received from the City of Burnet at any time
  • Request inspections online
  • View and print completed inspection reports
  • Receive real-time email notifications for phone call when an inspection is completed

To Request an Inspection

Please log onto www.MGOConnect.org to schedule an inspection for your permitted project. All inspection requests must be submitted no later than 3:00 pm to be added to the next business day’s schedule. Inspections requested on weekend or holidays will be scheduled for the day after the return to normal business hours.
