Drivers Safety Course

Under the laws of the State of Texas, you may request the dismissal of one (1) MOVING traffic violation by taking a driver’s safety course or motorcycle course if you were driving a motorcycle when ticketed: 

You are eligible to request a Driver's Safety Course (DSC) if you meet the following criteria:

  • You have a current Texas Driver’s License or permit. If you are military or a military dependent, you must provide a valid Military ID with your out of state driver’s license.
  • You have valid liability auto insurance that specifically lists you as a driver.
  • You do not currently or at the time of the violation hold a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • You are not charged with traveling at a speed of 95 miles per hour or more or alleged of traveling more than 24 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
  • You are not charged with Passing a School Bus, Failing to Give Info/Render Aid/Leaving Scene of Accident or with any moving violation occurring in a construction zone with workers present.
  • You have not completed a Driver’s Safety Course that resulted in dismissal of a citation within the last 12 months (date of completion to date of new violation must be longer than 12 months).
  • Your request is being made on or before the appearance date listed on your citation.

 

If you meet the requirements you may request to take a Driver's Safety Course via mail, email or in person.

 

Be prepared to provide proof of the following upon your request: 

  • Texas Driver License or Out of State License with Valid Military ID
  • Current auto insurance card
  • Fee  in the amount of $144.00 for a non-school zone violation or $169.00 for a violation that occurred in a school zone
    • The Court accepts payment via Cash, Money Order, Cashier's Check or Credit/Debit Card : A 2% credit card fee will be added to credit card transactions
    • The Court DOES NOT accept personal or company checks

If you are making your request via email or mail, all documents must be submitted or postmarked by the appearance date on your citation. The documents listed above must be copies or scans. The Court DOES NOT accept photographs of documents.

If making your request in person, the Court will make copies of your documents.

You will also need to enter a plea of Guilty or No Contest to the violation. You may use the form you received with your citation or the plea form listed under the 'Pleas' Tab.
